Hubert Alfonso Guardiola Rojanno

Hubert Guardiola is a distinguished painter and curator at the Bolivarian Museum of Contemporary Art in Santa Marta, Colombia. With an extensive career spanning decades in the visual arts and cultural management, he has emerged as a pivotal figure in the Colombian Caribbean's artistic landscape.

Born and raised in Santa Marta, Hubert graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the Institute of Culture of Magdalena in 1984. He further honed his skills at the Latin American Academy of Arts David Manzur from

1984 to 1989, where he developed a deep passion for various artistic techniques.

His journey into printmaking led him to specialize in advanced techniques at Novo Art-Bogotá and learn Collography under the guidance of renowned Cuban masters at the University of Magdalena.

In addition to his artistic endeavors, Hubert has made significant contributions as an educator. He co-authored and directed the first Bachelor’s program in Visual Arts at the University of Magdalena in collaboration with the Institute of Culture of Magdalena, playing a crucial role in shaping the next generation of artists from 1991 to 1995. His dedication to teaching is evident through workshops he has conducted at esteemed institutions such as

the Bank of the Republic and the Tayrona

Gold Museum, where he inspires young artists to explore their creativity.

Hubert's artistic prowess is reflected in his participation in over thirty-two solo exhibitions and numerous international art events, including Fabriano in Watercolor in Italy and the International Watercolor Triennial held in Santa Marta. His remarkable contributions to both art and education have earned him several accolades, including a special distinction at the Sixth International Triennial in 2018.

Currently, Hubert balances his roles as an artist and educator, teaching at Sergio Arboleda University and the University of Magdalena. Since 2022, he has served as curator at the Bolivarian Museum of Contemporary Art, where he continues his commitment to promoting and disseminating contemporary art.
Through his diverse body of work and unwavering dedication to education, Hubert Guardiola stands as a beacon of inspiration within Colombia's vibrant art community.
